Instructions on How to Convert Cut Lines to Score Lines in Cricut Design Space

This tutorial will explain how to convert cut lines to score lines in Cricut Design Space. Please note: Cricut sells a scoring tool that allows you to create creases instead of cuts.

Our SVG box templates come with dotted cut lines as a guide to show you where to fold the sides and tabs to create a 3D box. It is not necessary to alter or replace these lines. This post is only for people who prefer a solid score line instead of a dotted cut line. (See the bottom of this page for a picture showing the difference.)

How to Change the Current Cut Lines to Score Lines in Cricut Design Space

  • Ungroup the dotted lines from the template by right clicking your mouse and selecting “Ungroup.”
  • Select only the dotted lines
  • At the Linetype Menu select “Score.”
  • Select the dotted lines and main template.
  • Select “Attach”
  • You can now click “Make It,” and follow your screen prompts. (Please make sure you have your scoring tool in the proper holder.)

How to Create a New Score Line in Cricut Design Space

Although the score line in Cricut Design Space looks like it is dashes, it actually scores as a solid line.

  • Select the “Shapes” menu from the left side.
  • Select the “Score Line.”
  • Draw lines directly over the original vertical dotted lines.
  • Select a new score line.
  • Go up to “Rotate” and type in “90”
  • Press Enter
  • Place the new score lines over the original horizontal dotted lines.

To Delete the Original Dotted Cut Lines

  • Select the main template.
  • Right click your mouse.
  • Select “Ungroup.”
  • This will send the new score lines to the back, so you can remove the original cut lines.
  • Select the original dotted cut lines
  • Right click your mouse.
  • Select “Delete.”
  • Select the main template.
  • Right click your mouse.
  • Select “Send to Back.” You will then be able to see your new score lines again.
  • Select all of your score lines and the main template.
  • Select “Attach.”

You can now click ‘Make It,” and follow your prompts. Please make sure you have the scoring tool in the proper holder.

Comparing Cut Lines and Score Lines

It’s hard to show in a picture, but if you can zoom in you should be able to see more details.

The template on the left was done with the original cut lines.

The template in the middle was done by just changing those cut lines to score lines.

The template on the right was done by replacing the original cut lines with new score lines.

Hope this was helpful!
