Prepare The Glass Candle Jar

  • For this tutorial I will be using a Bath & Body Works 3 Wick Candle.
  • Remover the plastic wrap or sticker from your candle jar.
  • Melt all the wax.
I like to use the coffee cup warmers, depending on the size of the candle and how much wax needs to be melted.
(No I did not waste all of this candle. I just forgot to take a picture of the original one before I emptied the jar. Lol.)
Some people use a pan of warm water. (Please google instructions for this method.)
I do not recommend the microwave. Most, if not all, candles have metal in the bottom holding down the wick.
  • Drain out the wax into a safe container.
  • Clean the jar.

Prepare the Candle Jar Lid

  • Paint the lid your desired color. (I used a white spray paint.)
  • Choose your handle for the lid.
These are different drawer pulls. Later in the post I will show different options for hadles.
  • Paint the knobs if you do not like their original color.
I put the knobs through a cardboard box to make them easier to spray paint. This way I could turn them over to paint the bottom.
  • Find the center of the lid.
Using a compass will allow you easily mark the center. (Set the width to half the size of your circle.)
  • Mark the center of your lid.
My compass has a metal point that allowed me to poke a hole in the center, so pressing down with a marker allowed the ink to go through onto the lid.

Add Your Handle to Your Storage Jar

  • You can choose to drill a hole or use a glue. It depends on what you are using the jar for, and how often the jar will be accessed as to what you will want. It is completely your preference.
  • Tip: To find out the size drill pit you need, place your screw in the drill bit hole. If it is too lose, it is too big.
  • If you choose to drill a hole. Look for left over metal shards and make sure to remove them.
  • Also, make sure your knob screw goes all the way into the knob, so it is flat. If you notice in the picture below, the screw that came with my drawer pull was not made to go flat. I had to replace it with a different screw.
Using a washer between the lid and screw, on the bottom side, is also a good idea. (Not shown in the picture.)
